We started in the kettle, boiled some of the grains, went back to the mash tun, then back to the kettle, boiled the grains again, back to the mash tun, and yes back to the kettle, leaving the beautiful toasted grains behind. The outcome is a traditional Czech Dark Lager known in the Czech Republic as a Tmavé Pivo.
The decoction process really enhances the wonderful characteristics of the German malt, bringing out notes of toffee with a sweet roast to the beer. You see what happens, Larry? You see what happens when you ask for more non-IPA cans?! You get lagers, lots of lagers!

At the brewery in a proper handle mug. Pours a deep brown color and served with a big foamy tan head. A nice roasted malt nose with a delicate roasted sweet chocolate and toffee flavor.

On tap at the brewery. Pours brown with foamy, off-white head. Aroma is of toasted malt, toffee, coffee and hint of herbal hops. Body is medium and smooth. Taste is similar to aroma. Finish is long and semi-dry. Tasty brew.
