Got in a BIF from snaotheus. 16 ounce can into willi becher glass, canned on 10/21/2021. Pours crystal clear very carn ruby/brown near black color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy khaki head with fantastic retention. Dense soapy lacing on the glass. Aromas of big coffee, cocoa, brown bread/crust, roasted nuts, light smoke/herbal/wood/pine. Taste of big coffee, cocoa, roasted nuts, brown bread/crust, toast, herbal, wood, peppercorn, pine, light smoke/char/dark fruit. Light-medium pine, herbal, woody, charred bitterness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body. Balanced bready/grainy/charred malts and sticky hop mouthfeel. Lingering oily resin dryness with no acrid/astringent flavors. Perfectly clean lager flavors with no yeasty/fruity notes. Fairly crisp/clean/refreshing finishing. Very flavorful for 5%. Spot on Schwarzbier to style: big munich/roasted malt complexity and balanced noble hops. Fantastic all around.

Look: Jet black on the pour and a deep ruby red when held to light with a frothy light tan head that slowly settles, leaving great lacing behind
Aroma: Roast, toasted grains, cocoa, some earthiness, and wafts of freshly baked brown bread
Taste: A huge hit of dark chocolate and roasted barley kick things off as light earthy notes and coffee fade in and out of the picture. Bready malt is present throughout and shines in the middle before roast and cocoa re-enter and lead to the close
Mouthfeel: Full but light, very clean and crisp throughout, medium-high carbonation, and crisp and clean on the finish
Overall: This is tasty stuff. This is a delicious American take on a Schwarzbier and very well made to boot which is awesome as I love the style. These folks have been batting 100 for my tastes as I’ve ventured through several of their offerings and this one continues that trend. Price point is steep which keeps me from buying a lot of their stuff but I wouldn’t say money not well spent as they’ve all been (the beers) impressive. Recommended

Firsties! Found at New Seasons in Vancouver. Can stamped 12/31/2020. Very dark pour, not quite stout black, nice head, mild aroma of roasted coffee and toffee. Dry taste, cocoa, coffee and malt. Not sweet and lower on the scale of complexity as a stout as it's a lager. Lower on the ABV at 5%. Longish finish. Seek it out post-haste!
