can into glass
This is a collaboration with Silvaticus.
Medium thick, light tan head. Clear, deep chestnut and a little auburn, for the look. Lots of dark roasted grain, with a touch of wood smoke in the aroma, with a tiny hint of canned smoked oysters. A little bit of woody sharpness to start the taste, leading to dark roasted grain and a moderate amount of smokiness and finishes likewise.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a thin dark khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, coffee, light cocoa and smokehouse smoke. Flavor is dark toasted malt, wood smoke, coffee and a little cocoa; great char and smoke finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Really well balanced smoke with a solid porter base with great interaction between the smoked and base malt creating fine coffee notes as well as hints of chocolate. I'm a big fan of smoked beers, particularly porters and stouts, but have found that most modest ABV examples have a base that can't fully support the smokiness. This is very well balanced, with a malt profile that supports the flavors very well at this ABV. There is a umami meatiness to the smoke that really makes the flavor pop. Nicely done. Great name too.

Can from The Beermongers.
A dark brown with a ight brown head and brown highlights, this looks solid. The nose is rich and smoky, a blend of deep woodsmoke, coffee, roast and a little vanilla. Lovely balance, with the heavy amounts of smoke really tasty here. The palate opens smoky with lots of wood smoke, earth, roast, coffee, brown sugar, a nice robust richness despite the low alcohol content. Initially carbonated a little bit more than ideal, once it dies down, the palate really opens up, allowing the rich smoke to shine. Lovely.
