Enjoyed on tap at The Beermongers, Portland, OR, in a tulip-style pint glass.
Look:
The body is a bold yellow-gold with a soft, unfiltered haze to it. The milk-white head shrinks quickly to a thin surface, but leaves plenty of lacing in memory of its prouder days.
Smell:
The nose is more pilsner than kellerbier: crisp, doughy malt and floral/spicy Noble hops, but no yeasty/rustic kellerbier character. It does show some green/floral/mild citrus fresh hop notes.
Taste:
The taste leads with bready and slightly toasty malt. Not much depth, but the flavors are pleasing. The fresh Hallertauer hops contribute a geranium-like floral character that's quite spicy, along with a spritz of lemon. Proper bitterness in the drying finish sets the stage agreeably for the next sip. Crisp and moreish.
Feel:
The feel is medium-light with bracing carbonation.
Overall:
A worthy and enjoyable example of the style.
