Wakatu and Motueka hops give this beer notes of mango, papaya, peach, and southern hemisphere fruit. The Australian yeast yields a bready and malty backbone which provides structure for this hoppy but balanced beer. Contango: Where the futures price of a commodity is higher than the spot price.

On tap at the brewery. Pours hazy golden with fluffy white head. Aroma is of citrusy hops, bready malt and tropical fruit. Body is medium and crisp. Herbal hops dominate the palate with bready malt and tropical fruit in the background. Finish is long and dry. Good brew.

Pours a massive, half the pint glass head, light tan color, good density and retention, very wispy lacing. Translucent yellow to apricot orange colored liquid. Nicely openly knit nose of cracker, vanilla bean, floral musk and peach, guava, mango fruit, not as tropical as the name suggests, not finding it especially herbaceous or dank, very easygoing. Medium to full-bodied, initial surge of carbonation then settles back to a low and steady prickle. Here it is more herbaceous, in a wet and pungent manner. Overall, though, the mouth feel inclines towards dry. The fruit shows more tropical bite with more flavor than sugariness. More melon too. Subtle white grapefruit presence. To my palate, pretty darn malty too. Although it has a relatively low ABV for the style these days a little too thick to consider it crushable. (Canned 12/8/21)

Canned on 4/14/2021. Poured into a pint glass. It pours a hazy, but not completely opaque, bright golden orange with a half finger of creamy, milk white head and thick coating of lacing. The nose is floral and tropical with soft notes of lemon, lime, tangerine, and tropical fruit. The taste opens with abundant citrus, including lemon and lime, balanced by the sweetness of ripe melon, mango, and subtle hints of pineapple and white wine grape. The Motueka, Wakatu, and Vic Secret hops are used to excellent effect and give it the distinct South Pacific tropical fruit taste. Beneath is a bready backbone of barley malt with sharpness from the Australian yeast. I'm assuming (always a risk) that the Galaxy hops are used for bittering and this ale leaves a fairly significant parting bitterness (75 IBU). It's crisp and lite with fairly lively carbonation and it drinks easily at 7% ABV. Overall, Mango Contango is impressive. It's a nice rendition of the South Pacific hopped IPA. Assuming Bull n Bear continues to can it, I could see drinking it often during the summer months.
