Anniversary Porter

This is a special release to celebrate Bull n Bear Brewery's first anniversary. A pint pour at the brewery served in a snulip glass. It pours a lovely dark mahogany color with a creamy, light mocha cap and sheen of lacing. An attractive pour. The smell developed nicely as it warmed: roasted malt, vanilla, leather, tobacco smoke, and deliate but discernible boysenberry. The taste is unique and offers a wonderful balance of tart - slightly sour - boysenberry and sweet vanilla bean and lactose. As it warms the chocolate malt becomes more evident and adds depth to the taste. All of the flavors are measured and they blend very nicely. The mouth feel is fairly lite and crisp for a Porter and it's super drinkable at 5.5% ABV. Overall, I really enjoyed this beer. It's very well-crafted and a fitting anniversary offering. And I give it style points for originality; I've never had a beer quite like this one. Happy Anniversary, Bull n Bear!
