Bull N Bear Brewery

On tap at the brewery. Pours dark red with tall, long lasting, fluffy white head. Aroma is of caramel malt, ripe fruit and herbal hops. Body is medium and smooth. Taste is of herbal hops, caramel malt, yeast and ripe fruit. Finish is long and dry. Nice brew.

Pint pour on draught less than one week after release. It pours a dark ruby-brown color with a thin, ecru-colored head and minimal lacing. The smell is malty and smoky with notes of raisin and dark fruit, chocolate, and coffee. Its taste is roasty with burnt peat, charred nuts, coffee, and hints of dark fruit. As it warms in the glass, the chocolate malt emerges and begins to dominate the taste profile. There is a real depth of flavor. It finishes with a nice dose of spicy hop bitterness. The mouth feel is lite and crisp with a pleasant level of carbonation, and it drinks very easily at 5.5% ABV. Overall, I would say first that Bull N Bear deserves credit for brewing an Altbier and doing so successfully. I give it extra style points in the overall rating for doing so. Alternative Investment is flavorful and thoroughly enjoyable and I look forward to drinking it often while it's available.
