Caml and I bought this beer at the weyermann malting facility in Bamberg. We opened it the same day, and were very disappointed to find that it had almost zero carbonation and that the "stable crown of white head" described by the info sheet was absolutely not present.
Due to the use of flip top bottles, this is most likely a freshness issue, but because it was sold to us in a store maintained by the people that brewed it, I absolutely hold them responsible for not keeping their product fresh. To their credit, there is a bottling date on the bottle, however it is not the consumer's responsibility to know how long a flip-top takes to become flat, it is the brewers.
The aroma of this beer is magnificent. Dominated by honey, it wafts out of the glass enticing you to take a drink. It is a beautiful super-saturated yellow color (as one would expect from a beer made with saffron)
Sadly the flavor is a total let down, the honey hinted at by the aroma is squashed out by a dose of acid malt and a generic, uncompelling sweetness.
Mouthfeel is terrible, a bit on the slimy side and totally flat.
Drinkability, well, something that doesnt taste good and doesnt feel good in your mouth is not very drinkable now is it?
