Served on tap at Iron Hill West Chester, served in a long fluted glass. Review#1350. I had a longer more thought out review that did not save, so here is a shorter review.
Saison Melange goes in the glass a darker shade of penny bronze with gold spots shining out. Just enough bubbles to form a cap of off white foam. No lace on the way down. Smell is very pungent with brett, funk, saison qualities, earth, biscuit, and some fruit appeal, I wonder if this is BA'ed. Taste is just as pleasant as the nose. A bretty saison with a punch. Tart fruit, apple, pear, etc. Brett is high but not heavy handed. Some funk has reached the palate. Small traces of grassy tones towards the end. All in all, Banging!! Feel is approaching medium with a light but pleasant carb going for it. I could drink a lot of this and will probably, now that I know about it. The 6.5% will help me get through a lot of this. I really dig these lower ABV'ed bretty funky beers. More room for more beer.

Picked up a growler at West Chester.
A-Clear golden honey with a little bit of white head and a bit of sticky lacing.
S-Funky lemon and pear, some farmhouse funk with sweet and tart fruit.
T-Tart and funky, lemon and sour. A nice brettiness, mostly a meyer lemon sourness. Delicious.
M-Light and crisp and dry.
O-Excellent, a great bretty saison. One of the best IH saisons.

Appears a transparent light gold with a small white head. Scattered bits of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of tart lemons, vanilla, citrus, light pils malt, and overripened pears. Extremely mild note of diacytel that I'm probably stretching by even mentioning. Not a bad thing though.
Taste is amazing. Lots of Brett character, oak, and funky lemon zest. Better than Jolly Pumpkin!!!!
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, tart, zesty, and refreshing. Not for everyone but certainly my favorite local beer so far of 2011.
