Barrel blended wet hop ale. New York Farmhouse came from the same brew as our New York Wet Hop IPA. We fermented a small portion of wort with a saison yeast that was isolated in Tyrone, NY. After fermenting, we blended it with a barrel of Salus and dry hopped the blend with Vista hops from Ontario county. It has aromas of stone fruit, grapefruit, and berries with notes of oaked Chardonnay. Tastes slightly sour and bitter.

This one presents clear amber with a four inch, fluffy white head. The head holds for a few minutes before retreating to a thick one-inch pillow. Huge clouds of thick lacing cling to the Strangebird IIPA glass, while carbonation races upwards in a couple of columns. After pouring the last half ounce, a cloud of yeast drops into the mix.
The aroma opens with strong leather and, to a lesser extent, horse blanket. Herbs and fermented fruit follow. The effect is that of an earthy white wine that becomes more prominent with warmth.
This Saison is surprisingly bitter. Unsurprisingly, it is earthy and herbal with mild sourness. Hay and cardamom follow and carry into a long, bitter finish that is quite dry.
Ample carbonation scours the palate. It has a medium to full body and the texture of coarse canvas. The alcohol is a little less prominent than expected.
This is a pleasant twist on the Saison style and is supposedly made with 100% New York State ingredients. The twist is that it is a blend of the IPA and Saison styles. I found that it was enjoyable after a long day, while relaxing before dinner.

This one pours a dark golden reddish color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like herbal and spicy hops, oak, red wine, berry skin, and lemon.
This is an interesting little beer – a hoppy and bitter saison blended with a darker saison – I wasn’t sure if that combo would actually work, but it pretty much does here. It’s not too sour, softly tart, with a bitter herbal hop character, clove, lemon, and a very light funkiness, along with some breadiness, and red wine notes.
This is medium bodied, and pretty drinkable, with a very good drinkability.
This is a fascinating little blend, and I really enjoyed it.
