they use their english brown ale as a base for this valentines treat, which i like for a couple reasons. one, it being a brown keeps the dark roasted grain of a stout or a porter out of the mix, letting the cocoa nibs bring the deepest element to this, earthy and bitter and intense, i love that in the space with the chocolate malt instead of the roasted barley. two, i think the english brown is smart, i like the yeast element keeping something very desserty fully in the beer realm, smart call there. this is served on nitro and its impossibly luscious, with a pretty tan shaving cream thick satin smooth head on top, staying the whole time, a nice cascade too, excellent job with the nitrogenation and it sends this over the top! there is tart cherry juice and date syrup in here with the cocoa, a sweet and tart interplay, very successful, and with the cherry intensity, this isnt any more sweet than it is tart, feels more like dessert than it tastes, the dates just balance it and work in with the nice nutty malt base, this is so cool on a number of levels. not the kind of thing i normally am attracted to, but the quality here is impressive. definitely a unique take, creamy and mellow and sensual! i only got a small pour and that was all i needed, but i see they do the full size pours with an actual chocolate truffle, how decadent!
