a collaboration with shades in town, who makes some pretty ambitious stuff. this is just a light lager, a clean and well made one, simple and drinkable and refreshing even on a snowy winter afternoon, the kind of thing you could easily sit and drink ten of, especially with their awesome pizzas in here, well executed but not particularly exciting. i suppose every place needs a beer like this though, and this is preferable to many, even most, i really like it. as with many of these, its sort of natural to asses them based on what they arent as much as on what they are, and this is not adjuncty, cheap tasting, underdone, or off in texture, its not metallic or plastic or chemical, the yeast isnt doing anything weird, and its not lacking in refreshment value at all. to me thats basically enough for it to be good to very good, and it is. very pale yellow, very highly carbonated, very minimal in the nose and taste, especially on the finish, some drying minerality which is nice, a lightly herbal hop profile, but a beer that any beer drinker should be satisfied with. i liked everything we had to eat and drink here, including this approachable light lager. since this isnt what shades really does, it speaks volumes about the skill and contribution of their brewer here too!
