Our Dark Mild is brewed with English Maris Otter and light, medium, and dark crystal malts. For hops, a combination of UK East Kent Golding and Whitbred Golding hops. You get a flash of rich maltiness, dark fruit, chocolate, and a hint of roast from the malt complemented with light floral, lemony citrus, and fruity flavors and aromatics from the hops and yeast. Conditioned in the keg or can to achieve a soft carbonation that approximates a cask pint.

Pours out to a dark chestnut, hazy from the yeast in the can, forming a small off yellow head with average retention and no lace. Carbonation is mild, ~2.0 carbs or so. Nose of carob, toasted pumpernickel bread, hazelnut, subtle earthy hops, faint whiff of cola. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth, richer than one would expect given the ABV. The taste is quite rich and delightful for a beer of this ABV. Up front earthy and spicy notes, husky like toasted rye bread, an expertly balanced earthy and spicy hop bitterness which sits very nicely throughout until the finish. Some nice fruity English yeast esters without any flaws. No oxidation, fusels or diacetyl. 103 days of age has not hurt this beer one bit.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable beer. It's not often we find a dark mild where I live and I've had very few if any. I'm a homebrewer and have read dozens of articles about them over 30+ years, but have never gotten around to brewing one. This beer inspires me to brew one up as it's full of flavor yet easy to drink. From my understanding of the style, Farm Club has nailed it with this one. Highly recommended.
