This beer pours somewhat of a caramel color. Once it's in the glass it has amber notes to it. It also looked somewhat thick while pouring. The head is 2 finger, and off white. The head retention is quite good, and there's lacing on the glass.
The aroma has notes of the malts in it, but it's also got a pleasing smoke aroma. This isn't a bonfire or ash tray smoke smell, more like from a smoker smoking some tasty meat.
Taste starts out a buttery biscuit malt flavor. The flavor quickly turns to smoke. The smoke in the flavor is more intense than in the aroma. With the smoke the buttery biscuit flavor continues and lingers.
The body is lighter, but not watery at all. The feeling of the smoke lingers in my throat, along with the buttery biscuit.
I love smoke beers, and this is a delicious one. Quite impressed, and will be looking for this when I'm next in North Dakota.

16oz can. No dating information found.
Medium amber, occluded colored body. Thin finger of egg shell white head. Leaves some hanging strings of lacing.
Aroma is medium smoked malts. The grains seem to dominate over the hops.
Taste is held firm by the Kveik yeast. Smoked malt is present. Some piney sweetness.
Medium mouth feel. Good carbonation.
Unrefined, as described on the label. Has an authentic, older nose and taste profile.
