22oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace. It smelled of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, toffee and dark chocolate. Sweet bourbon taste with chocolate, toffee and caramel.

2023 release. Poured from bomber into a snulip glass. It pours a ruby-brown color with a long-lasting, creamy, light khaki-colored cap and thick film of lacing. The smell includes roasted malt, dark fruit, burnt peat, tobacco smoke, and subtle but noticeable bourbon. Wow, this is very good! The taste opens with sweet malt, apple, raisin, and bitter, charred peat. The balance is excellent and the taste is intense. The bourbon barrel influence is unmistakable. Although a year old it's still quite boozy. But the strength of the barrel compliments - and doesn't dominate - the other flavors. The mouth feel is plush and creamy with moderate carbonation, and it drinks big for the 8.9% ABV. Overall, this BA Scotch Ale very well-crafted. The whole exceeds the sum of its parts. I'm glad I bought a second bottle. I now wish it had been more.
