Black Lager a.k.a. Schwarzbier in German, is a style from the Middle Ages. Medium-bodied, malty and chocolate in color, with a creamy, long-lasting head. Surprisingly soft and elegant brew that is rich, mild, and smooth.

A delicious stout. Rich, roasted malty taste. A dark, inky look and a rich roasted smell. The taste is smooth (a 5.00% ABV) but it's smooth, rich and malty taste with no bitterness. High Point adhere's to German Beer Purity Standards, and it wonderful to get so much flavor out of so few ingredients.

Dark black with opaque brown around the edges and average tan head that recedes to a ring and doesn't leave lacing. The smell gives off the malt notes and the taste follows additionally with some complexity with the hops as well. All contributing with the moderate carbonation for a smooth and pleasant feel.
The bottle says this one was over 5 years old so I don't know

Totally cool Angel puts tjos classic on at City Beer downtown Manhatten. We'll balanced with the lean to roast in the style and assistance of hops to fuel the taste.

32 oz growler purchased at the brewery.

Very dark brown, almost black in color. It actually has some pretty good clarity, which you can see as you get towards the end of the glass. Small tan head with better retention than expected.

Roasted malt is strong in the aroma. Very little hop presence, but some floral notes emerge in the background. Smooth roasted malt flavor with a light bitterness on the back end (from the malt, not hops). You get a bit of milk chocolate mixed in as well.

Clean and dry in the finish. Medium bodied. Such a nice beer to have locally. Would recommend to any dark beer lover who doesn't want to deal with a high ABV.

Medium carbonation with about the same for the body
Aroma is malt, dark honey, licorice, honey candy
Taste is mildy sweet with an even lighter hop bite. Malt dark honey licorice candy like flavor coats the mouth and lingers a while.
Overall this was a really nice pleasing beer in every category . Sorry I only picked up a single. Would definitely look for this again.

a: super murky dark muddy brown color with a hint of dark purple and ruby red. nice 3 finger tan head that fades quickly though to nothing more than a thin flim

s: nice lager spice, pepper spice, and a nice chewy dark caramel note. earthy hops and toffee. some cardboard, brown sugar and more chewy malts. ends with that crisp lager note

t: toasted malts, charred oak, and chewy sweet caramel. grass, pepper, and a hint of cola. some nice mellow herbal hops and more grass at the end as well as a touch of wood again

m: lighter side of medium with high carbonation. the high carbonation really works in this

o: delicious beer and a really nice example of the style. nothing to complain about with this besides i wish the head would stick around a little longer

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a Ramstein pint glass. It pours jet black with two fingers of lite khaki-colored head and copious lacing. On the nose there is roasted dark malt, pumpernickel bread, burnt nuts, whiffs of molasses and tobacco, and spices. It has a rich, full taste of dark bread, bakers chocolate, nuts, earthy char, and tobacco. It has all the flavors you'd expect in a fine Schwarzbier. The feel is lite and crisp, with lively carbonation, and with an ABV of only 5%, a second pour is not a concern. High Point knows how to brew German-style beers and it absolutely nailed this Schwarzbier. I think it's better than Köstritzer.

This beer pours an opaque black color with highlights of dark brown around the edges and in the narrower part of my glass. No visible carbonation. A lively, rocky head of beige foam rises three fingers above the beer and out of the glass. A gentle pour yields a really big head. The head settles to a thin layer across the top of the beer, with a thicker ring around the edge of the glass and some lacing.

Wonderful and clean aromas of sweet and toasty dark malt. Dark bread and nutty. After the roast a hazelnut aroma, in its pure form and even in its “spreadable mixed with cocoa” form. Roasty and toasty dark bread. Earthy.

On the palate, nutty, toasted dark bread, espresso, ending on a very long finish where the little bit of malt sweetness shifts to waves of dry, toasty, roasty and slightly ashy flavors that drive a nice level of bitterness.

Smooth carbonation and mouthfeel. Dry.

I don’t drink many black lagers, but I would if they were around more. This beer is more flavorful and aromatic than Kostritzer. It’s quite dry and has some nice bitterness to it with sweeter undertones.

this is an exceptional black lager, one of the better ones i have had in a long time, and certainly one of the darkest! i expected a euro type "dark" lager that is basically amber, they seem to call everything that isnt golden dark, but this pours like a stout, with a big rich head on it and a near black base, not super dense looking but with a great depth of color for the style. the smells is neatly roasty with a strong coffee suggestion and plenty of char, ash, and earthy bitterness. the lager yeast is bready but clean, lots of character from it obvious in the nose as well. i get light molasses and even blackberry jam when i smell deeply. the flavor is excellent, kind of simple but i like that in a beer like this more often than not, with more coffee underneath the dark roasted barley. dry as they go, with a german grain vibe to it somewhere in the middle, a fuller body than a lot of these have, but exceptional drinkability with its smoothness and carbonation, a really solid beer from a technical standpoint too, patient lagering and excellent attention to detail. my first beer from these guys, well ahead of modest expectations, this was great!

Nice dark roast and coffee flavors in this tasty, old-world style lager. I'd definitely pick up a six pack if the fine folks at Ramstein bottled it.
