this is absolutely wonderful beer, one of the better pepper beers ive had in a long long time, and my favorite of the beers we had here at the brewery. the base is a simple mexican lager, but the kicker is serrano peppers, and not just that, but smoked serrano peppers, courtesy of the pit bbq joint they share a wall and a patio with, which i can confirm is excellent! blonde and rather clear base beer, unassuming for a pepper beer, average white head on it from the can. the aroma here is pretty awesome, a little pale malt or even corn sweetness carrying woody and unique smokiness, albeit not over the top, and the pepper aroma is fresh and green, not roasted and cooked, which is interesting given that the peppers saw heat, but their fleshy vegetal goodness is retained and its almost mouthwatering and meaty, really cool, slight fruitiness from the mexican lager yeast is there in the background as well. the flavor is more pepper forward than smoke, the heat is restrained but its there in the throat, perfect for my palate, mild for serrano, maybe they seeded them or something. the smoke makes this round and layered, is amazing with the pepper, and almost brings that poblano character to this. light corny sweetness is present in the grain and i think it adds some neat balance, and the crispness of the lager is not sacrificed at all. the pepper heat lingers only for a second after each pull, and is new again every time i take a sip. i love the smoked aspect to the peppers, but also how they stay fresh to me. really drinkable as this sort of thing goes, and really high quality. impressively good. thanks to all the folks here for being so kind to us while we were in town!
