fun beer from a very cool place, one of the more modern and sort of trendy feeling breweries we encountered in spain, neat little space, quite modest, at least the taproom part, great service, cool selection of stuff, impressive range. this one is what they call a double ipa, even at this rather average strength, things north of 7% abv seemed to get that tag over there for whatever reason, tasty mix of hops, mostly dry hopped, in a hazy base with some tropical fruit including mango, pineapple, and passion fruit, which in many ways are quite subtle, but all play an important role in this slightly starchy dense straw colored brew. it smells more hoppy than fruity by a mile, but the pineapple seems to make the hops pop, citra up front to me, meyer lemon jumps out of it, in front of any grain to my senses. the other fruits are less apparent in the nose, there is light greenness and bite to the hops, but the ferment appears clean. the flavor is quite a lot different than the nose, now the passion fruit adds a back end tang that helps this finish fast and drink lighter than it otherwise would, while the mango sweetens the middle and accentuates the malt, which without it might hit a little bland and cereal forward. i think there is nice balance to this, a lot of attention to detail and intentionality, a tad filling to drink even with the pleasant tartness at the end, but good carbonation keeps it moving and i kind of like how much depth this has as it warms. cutting edge stuff in an increasingly generic style space. nicely done.
