liberally hopped english bitter here, even the classic styles here were pretty progressive, although this should please any fan of the style. its rusted orange and unfiltered looking with a huge just off white puffy head and lots of rising carbonation. aroma of kilned malt, a little honey sweetness and toasted breadiness to it, but still light, some earthy minerals also evident, maybe even faintly metallic. the yeast is english but minimal to me, and the hops really stands out, peppy and bitter with some herbal greenness and citrus peel character, appealing and sort of bold for the style. the flavor hits pretty hard, all elements at once, i am surprised how forward the hops are and how much the grain rides through to the end, even though it stays dry later on. the yeast is again subtle but distinctly english, unifying in this. the hops hit orange, cut flowers, and moderate bitterness that lingers just a little on the tongue, and the texture is soft and medium bodied without being too light, dry enough and fizzy enough to be real drinkable, a little more life to this than a lot of actually english ones. solid overall, contemporary bitter, well done, id love to see more of this sort of thing in the states...
