A little time in the can seems to do this one some good. At a few weeks old it was a little green and un-noteworthy. But now at 6-ish weeks, it’s really excellent.
Similar to other Xul hazies I’ve tried, has a quintessential look, glowing orange-gold body, fully opaque but not murky at all, with a creamy head and nice, soapy lacing (especially with some robust swirls of the glass). Absolutely fantastic vineous, oniony, and dank aroma right up front. Citrus and tropical fruits, wine grapes and honeydew melon, a touch of confection sugar, light grain, some Juicy Fruit gum, and a light overripe stone fruit finish. I really love that green onion note, but here the fruits don’t quite offer enough balance, otherwise the aroma score would be higher. Taste follows with a spot-on balance of semi-sweetness and hop bitterness. Incredibly creamy and soft on the tongue. Leans heavily on citrus, mango, peach, and grapefruit pith late, and the oniony notes are more in check on the tongue (though still strong and dank). The 8.2% is well hidden, with the only boozy quality coming from the overripe fruits and extreme dank ness. Not the most nuanced imperial hazie I’ve had, but really tasty.
Another winner from Xul and my second favorite to date. If Found Please Return was a bit of a letdown after Paper Crowns, but this one has me once again very excited to try other Xul beers.
