Dated 04/23/26 WANDS BB, into a stemless wine glass.
Pours a murky purple with a little purple foam, extremely thick. Aroma is blueberry pop tarts and sweet pastries, a little tart lemon, and some cream cheese. Flavor is spot on for what the can says. Sugary sweet blueberry pie with tart sourness from the ale itself and the lemon, alongside creamy cheesecake. No malt presence as this is gluten free, but a little graham cracker crust would've been nice. Otherwise, this reminds me a lot of a blueberry pop tart with creamier icing and some sourness to balance out the sugars. I wouldn't call it refreshing, but it is a delicious treat. The fruits aren't fresh or hyper realistic; instead, this is perfectly replicating the blueberry lemon cheesecake flavor indicated on the can. There's a vague sourness outside of the lemon that helps the other flavors, but I'd like just a little more cheesecake. It's not tooth rotting sweet, and there's a creaminess that's missing compared to other Xul cheesecake sours I've had. Feel is good, appropriately thick and coating. It's sticky and rich in all the right ways, I just wish there was that cheesecake density I've found in other Xul sours,
Overall, a banger. I hate fruited sours unless they're appropriately rich and thick, and there's only three breweries I'll trust for a proper pastry sour (pastry/smoothie sours are the only acceptable form of fruited sour ale): Mortalis, RaR, and Xul. This one is a peak example of disgusting, not even close to beer tasting indulgence, and I love it for that. Just wish it had a little more cheese in it.
