just my third from these guys, but the third good one! featuring a newly named hop called elani, i think this one is going to turn some heads, really bright and distinctive fruitiness, green melon and white grape to me here, but also super bitter in this beer, like this one is pretty intense, squarely in the west coast range, really quality beer overall, glad i got to get into this. real deep golden to brass color, clear enough and with a low glow and high white head, looks nice in the glass, sturdy and lively. the nose is distinct from the elani hops right away, kiwi fruit, watermelon rind, muskmelon, and dried herbs, peppy and brisk and bitter too, lightly woody, slight pineapple candy, some oils, some dankness, and more grain than it looks like it has, the hops are well supported by what must be a light crystal or honey malt. the overall flavor of this is great, its balanced but the hops lead, and the elani comes in waves, like a tsunami perhaps? slightly sweet up front with the malt and that brings out preserved lemon and ripe honeydew, later there is an almost vanilla wash, bubble hash too, then juicy pear, green banana, and even coconut, almost tropical as it warms. i like the alcohol being held back a little here compared to what is trending, and i like the tidiness, clean ferment here and the whole thing leaves plenty of room for these new hops to do their thing. i will be on the search for more elani beers, i liked this one a lot and precarious has delivered again!
