473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Feb 22 2024 and served slightly chilled. Not really a Berliner Weisse, but until BA adds dry hopped sour as a style (or 'American Kettle Sour', if you prefer a more all-encompassing alternative), I suppose this is the least-worst category to put it in.
Pours foggy pale gold, producing an inch of loose, foamy white head that lasts for a little over three minutes; in its wake, a soapy collar and filmy cap remain, as a modest ring of lace clings to the glass. There are grainy, wheaty malt notes and a modest whiff of lemony lacto-sourness, but the Citra hops are the obvious star of the aroma: I'm getting grapefruit and passion fruit, with suggestions of lychee and white grape.
It's tasty - not all that sour, but the dry hop flavours are fruity and approachable. Stone fruit, wheat, passion fruit, orange and melon at the forefront, with shades of Meyer lemon, pear and lactic acidity developing on the back end; finishes dry in the aftertaste. Light-medium in body, with assertive carbonation that remains prickly and a little fizzy throughout the session; excellent drinkability for this style, with a thirst-quenching quality that makes for a downright crushable DHS.
Final Grade: 3.89, a B+. While most beers are best served fresh, the dry hopped ones (sour or otherwise) are practically the poster child for that rule of thumb. Take this can of Braided Roads: it's barely a month old, and it's tasting great right now. Would I be giving it this high of a grade if I'd held onto it until May or June? Maybe, but past experience with similar products suggests that the answer is an emphatic 'No'. What I'm saying is, try this beer as soon as possible... either that, or wait until you can find it fresh.

On tap at the brewery and canned ---pours a hazed pale straw with a smallish white cap that goes to a surface lace...fruity, musty-funky, sour tones....fruity, sour, much like a sour pear cider that does even puckering sour and dry in the finish..decent sour to pair with some goat brie or Hungarian sausage
