This Munich Lager is brewed with German Hallertau hops and Pilsner malt, and offers subtle aromas of wildflower honey and green tea. A noble hop finish balances a soft mouthfeel with a biscuit malt flavour.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, from the University Ave. West LCBO in nearby downtown Windsor. My second beer from the Kitchener, ON brewery.

Can from the brewery - pours a clear light gold with a 2 finger frothy white cap....aromas of boiled grains and light grassiness....medium-light body dry malty character....flavor has malts and hops in good balance short dry finish....a fair Helles, but a little underwhelming, not robust enough for the Munich style...a very toned down version

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated 07/06/2022 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a foggy pale golden colour, crowned with at least two fingers of soapy, foamy white head that recedes within five minutes or so. A beautiful, messy coat of doily-patterned lacing is imprinted onto the glass, with a generous collar of frothy suds floating upon the surface - looks fantastic to me. The nose is clean - I'm mostly getting pilsner malts, which give a grainy, bready note to the aroma; there are also suggestions of grassy, herbal noble hops.
Not a bad take on a helles lager - perhaps a little light in general, but the flavours are there. Grainy and bready at the forefront, with honeyed sweetness and a hint of biscuit developing by mid-sip. Cereal sweetness and weakly earthy, grassy hops on the tail end, concluding with a light pilsner malt-y aftertaste that fades within a moment or two. Medium in body, with low carbonation that feels a bit limp on the tongue, resulting in a smooth, wet mouthfeel that I found a little lacking. Of course, the low carb also means this has no bloat factor whatsoever, and could be consumed en masse.
Final Grade: 3.65, a B grade. Stockyards' Helles Lager isn't the greatest Ontario-brewed example of this classic German style, but it's a reasonably strong effort nonetheless. My main complaints relate to its weak hop profile and the relatively flat mouthfeel - both minor complaints that might not even matter to someone who just wants to enjoy a decent, local craft lager. Like most domestic-made helles lagers, it doesn't compare to the German imports, but I'd still say give it a shot.

Pours a light straw colour that seems to get darker as it settles into the glass. Corny and grainy on the nose. Slightly sweet and a bit metallic on the taste. A bit hoppy also. Nicely carbonated
