Double Play IPA
Star Route Brewery
Date: 10 Sept 2021
I was having lunch downtown Pocatello Idaho and discovered I was near a brewery. After lunch, I went to get a flight at this brewery and walked out with four crowlers. Two of the four thus far did not seal properly, and I threw them out. When I opened this one up, the lovely hiss emitted and delighted my ears. I poured it into my fancy IPA glass. A frothy and airy two-fingered head was created from the pour. The bright white head dissipated somewhat quickly but left loads of lacing the glass. The color charts around SRM 12, medium amber with rusty orange hues. Carbonation bubbles are active within the beer when put up to a light source.
The aromas in the beer are grapefruit, biscuits, toasted malts, pine needles, and malty sweetness. For a double IPA, the characters fall flat.
Biscuit and maltiness are prevalent; moreover, the hops in the beer are just meh. I detect orange, grapefruit, and pine needles. Sadly, the hop profiles are just stale. I should not see this type of degradation in the hops in a young beer.
The mouthfeel is dry and astringent.
The body is medium, low carbonation, and full finish.
Sadly, I will not give this beer a high mark. I have taste WCIPA that was far superior to this one. The malty profile drowns out the hops. A disappointing offering from Star Route.
