A: crystal clear; amberish bronze in color; 2 finger khaki head that receded slowly to a thin cap very little lacing;
S: herbal and earthy;
T: earthy for a moment, then caramel mixes in; tobacco in the middle, then quite metallic through the finish; mild to moderate bitterness at the end;
M: a little thin; light to moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish;
O: drinks more like an English IPA; the metallic finish is a serious distraction;

An unremarkable IPA. Light in color. Hoppy but perhaps not too much. Not much of a head. Light caramel in color. A little tinny in taste which is what I am finding to be the case with State Line beers. It might make a good bet for a case at a summer cook out if IPA is the way you swing. Other than that, it does not do much to break out of the Sierra Nevada territory.

12oz bottle (best by February 2012) into a Duvel tulip. This is a fairly new Trader Joe's brew, and it may deserve a new brewery listing. Since I can't find any information whatsoever about "State Line Brewing Company," I think it's best to list this at least for now under its contract brewer. Moderators, please feel free to move this to the correct brewery listing whenever it's available.
A: Deep russet-amber body with a healthy dose of floaties underneath an inch of tight near-white head. Good retention, great lace. A little dark, a little less than clear, but pretty good overall.
S: Distinctly English aroma (hence the listing; the brewer should feel free to change it to American IPA if so desired) of caramel malt and floral hops, with the former carrying significantly more weight. It's sweet without seeming cloying. Pretty nice.
T: A bit hoppier than the aroma, with floral and pine up front; bread and caramel maltiness follow close behind, with a bittersweet finish combining both elements. A little sticky-sweet, but not bad.
M: Medium body, with plenty of carbonation - a bit too much, in fact, with "spiky" being an appropriate adjective.
O: For $1/bottle, this is great. As an IPA, it's just decent.
