Bonzai Beer actually is a new Premium line from this nano. The line's first brew is Koshihikari, a rice lager and I confirm it is 4.2 from the label on my copy.
This Bonzai has a decent foam and active bubbles but beyond that I'm still not sure how to judge the style's Looks. Smells are mild as a mostly rice bill should be. Tastes are well-balanced, tho a bit more flavourful than most U.S. renditions of the style. Medium-mouthed, but could be softer.
As for the excellent Overall Hugs, that is for Onibi's two prong strategy. First is the contract brewing with Jackrabbit, a smart move because lager brewing brews better with the controls of new equipment; so working with an established crafter is a smart move. Second, emphasising Asian culture in brewing is smart marketing as that population is growing fast in Northern California. While I've noticed at least one other brewer in northern California with the Asian emphasis, this is the first Japanese exclusive I've drank. Kanpai ! (That's "Cheers" in Japanese.)
