Perfect for a day on the lake. This pale lagered ale is clean and crisp with a gentle bitterness from Hallertau hops grown near Collingwood by Clear Valley Hops.

This can features beautiful artwork by Georgina's own J.J.F. Cartography.

Poured a 473ml can into a stang. A solid two finger fine white head on an effervescent, very slightly hazy gold. Excellent head retention. Sticks around to the end. Lots of patchy lacing.

a malty nose. Grains. Tastes spicy and herbal Some vinous fruit is in there but it is very subdued. A dry, mild hop finish.

A light body and good carbonation. A bit off the style but overall a good refreshing Kölsch.

I bought 2 cans today at the LCBO in Ontario 473ml at 4.8%.
I liked the can art Lake Simcoe lagered ale on the can .
Poured into glass with a 1 finger head leaving a lace as you drink it.
Smooth clean and crispy.
Refreshing but bitterness level is high
It's a good beer tho
Cheers

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Jul 15 2021 and served barely chilled.

Pours a relatively clear pale golden colour; some light sediment hovers throughout the body, which is crowned with nearly two fingers of puffy, foamy white head that settles off within two or three minutes' time. It leaves behind several rings of beautiful, sticky lace, as well as a soapy collar and thin cap. Looks amazing, but the nose is nothing special - wheaty grains, bready pale malts, maybe a whisper of grassiness. Smells a little sweet for a kölsch.

Underwhelming, but unobjectionable - I'm getting doughy, bready malt sweetness at first, backed by wheaty grain and maybe a hint of orchard fruit. There are hints of grassy hops near the finish, but they're muted; meanwhile, the pale malts just keep on chugging into a lightly sweet, biscuity aftertaste that gives way to an off-dry denouement. Light in body, with moderately low carbonation levels that gently brush the palate; feels just a little frothy, but very soft and smooth. I could drink a few of these in a row, if needed, but I wouldn't call it a go-to.

Final Grade: 3.47, a B-. Lake Simcoe Lagered Ale is not a fancy beer, or a memorable one, but it is passable for what it is. Not an especially good kölsch per se, but if you're just looking for something along the lines of a German pale lager then this is largely adequate. I'll likely return to Turkey Shoot again at some point, as I try to give all beers a second chance, but at the end of the day, imports such as Gaffel (or any number of German/Czech lagers and pilseners) will give you better bang for your buck.

Pours a nice transparent gold colour with a reasonable head. Corn, grass and sweetness on the smell. The taste also is sweet, but metallic and peppery too. Smooth mouthfeel

473 ml can served cold into a Chimay chalice. Review from notes. Enjoyed with Thanksgiving dinner.

Appearance - Mostly clear with slightly hazy golden color with a small finger of frothy white head. Moderate retention and minimal lacing.

Smell - Some herbal leafy notes with plenty of grain. Nothing vinous like manty Kolsches are. Pretty subdued.

Taste - Fairly sweet brew, with lots of bready flavors. Hints of caramel mixed in.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, good crisp carbonation and semi dry finish.

Overall - Serviceable kolsch, while not being a trend setter. Could do a lot worse.
