Pours a deep, jet-mahogany body capped with a finger and a half of silky, browned khaki foam; decent head retention yields a seldom few islands of paper-thin cap, a moderate, creamy collar, and minimal-no lasting lacing holding to the walls of the glass.
Aromas of stewed plums immerse in a quaint maple soak as a deep spread of rye spice is awash in toasted molasses, while light cocoa forms the back end of the bouquet.
Taste offers raisin against bright sugar plum upfront, with an airy maple accent contrasting rye spice through the mid-palate; residual molasses meets brown toast on the back end and touches of smoked toffee and light cocoa on the finish.
Mouthfeel brings a deft, medium-light body and an airy fluff of moderate-high carbonation, dispersing pillowy textures over the mid-palate as a pseudo-twang touches distant warmth through a largely drying finish.
An airy malt undercurrent enlivened with an invigorating dark fruit amalgam; rye integration proposes an essential contrast to sweet maple for a steady-drinking, fulfilling strong/old ale.
