Our Märzen celebrates the rich tradition of Oktoberfest in Munich. This classic amber lager is a perfect balance of malty sweetness and a clean, crisp finish, just as it should be. The perfect beer for celebrating with friends.

6oz pour at Hamilton Beerfest. Beer 2/6. Review from notes. With Adam, Nash! Carrie, Ryan and Sarah!
Appearance - Reddish/amber colored brew with honey brown highlights. A finger of off-white head is poured and good staying power.
Smell - Warming aroma of bread and biscuits, lots of malt and a trace of honey.
Taste - Matches the nose, by being bready and biscuity, a sweet little honey kick at the end but restrained with a very nice amount of bitterness throughout.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, good expressive carbonation, drinks nicely and semi-dry finish.
Overall - A very nice example of a Marzen, the second best beer I enjoyed and an argument could be made that it was the top example.

Poured a 473ml can into a mug. A solid one finger fine off white head on a clear dark amber. Good head retention. It eventually diminishes to a thin layer that sticks around. Lots of foamy lacing.
Yeasty malts in the nose. Tastes bready and grainy. Fairly dry. Some spicy notes. An earthy hop finish.
A smooth medium body and moderate carbonation. Overall solid and true to the style. If you prefer Marzens on the dry side than this one is for you.

473 mL can from the LCBO; no canning date and served barely chilled. This oktoberfestbier showed up a little late in the season, but I won't hold that against it.
Pours a golden-amber honey hue, with countless flecks of very fine, silty sediment swirling throughout the liquid. Floating atop is roughly one inch of loose, foamy white head that settles within a couple of minutes, reduced to a thin collar around an otherwise barren surface; scant lace production. Malty aroma with notes of bready, biscuity malts, caramel, sweet apples, grassy hay and toasted grains.
A pretty good märzen; not too sweet and relatively well-balanced for the style. Bready malts, toasted grains, light honey and caramelized sugars come through initially, with hints of caramel apple and earthy, grassy hops bringing up the rear. Earthy finish, with toasted malts and biscuity sweetness continuing into a malty aftertaste. Medium in body, with low carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. Easy to toss back, but too strong to be a realistic session option.
Final Grade: 3.8, a respectable B+. I was pleasantly surprised by Ein Prosit, and I hope that next year Broken Rail is able to ship this by mid-October, when this style's demand is at its peak. I often find märzens to be sweeter than I'd like, but this one hits the target perfectly IMO - it's a strong lager that I could see myself drinking on the regular, and I'd encourage other BAs to give this a shot before it's gone.
