Type: 32-oz. crowler
Reviewed as: American Double / Imperial IPA
Glass: Monkish 16-oz. mug
Price: $16
From: Mcilhenney Brewing Company in Alpine, Calif.
Purchased: Nov. 11, 2021
Consumed: Nov. 11, 2021
Misc.: Collab with Moksa Brewing Company; Crowled on Nov. 11, 2021
Had this banger twice before, giving each a 4.25 on Untappd (Sept. 9, 2021 at a bottleshare and Nov. 11, 2021 at the brewery). Second time I wrote “Damn. Second time having this Moksa collab and first time not at a bottleshare. This is great. Taking a crowler home for full review. Guessing around a 4.40.” Untappd description was “Double-Dry-Hopped Double IPA w/ insane amounts of Nelson Sauvin & Strata. Brewed with our friends at Moksa Brewing & Co.”
Poured a medium yellow clear color with 3-to-4 fingers of frothy off-white head. Could see a few bubbles coming up along the sides and bottom of the glass. Very good watery lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled Strata, Nelson, strawberry, white grape, gooseberry, pine, dank weed, grapefruit, passion fruit, papaya and some mango. About the same from the can. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted even better than the nose. Got Strata, strawberry, Nelson, grapefruit, white grape, gooseberry, pine, dank resin, weed, passion fruit, Fruity Pebbles cereal, papaya, mango, citrus zest, floral, wet grass and lingering peppery spice. Did not taste 8.4 pct. (Taste - 4.50)
Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, dry finish. (Feel - 4.75)
Just an awesome double IPA. Loved it. (Overall - 4.50)
