The first Special by new Brewmaster Matt VanWyk: perhaps a safe choice, but then again, I dont believe FS has ever offered a bitter.
A nice hand pull into a 22 oz. weizen-type glass (a Monday Night Football special) presents a thin lacy head on a darkish brown body. Medium malty nose complemented by English hops. A good session ale flavor, taste runs a bit to the dry side, with a decent malt presence; more toasty than roasted, and no noticable esters. The alcohol is completely unnoticeable until it sneaks up on the back of your head. Made straight to style of a strong bitter. This might be a good one to add to the permanent beer board. I hope to see what Matt brews up when he gets playful.

Clear, coppery brown with a cream colored head. It fades fast and leaves an intricate sheeting of lace.
Clean aroma of caramel, toasted bread and a mild floral hops. Mouthwatering.
Sweet and bready with a "back of the tounge" bitterness. Nicely balanced and refreshing. Drier by mid-glass as the hops become more pronounced.
Mediumish body with delicate carbonation. It almost has the mouthfeel of a cask ale. Nice and drinkable.
This was my first of the Brewmaster Specials I have sampled since they changed brewers and I must admit, Matt did a good job with this one. A great session brew. Welcome to Flossmoor Matt.
