my first from these guys, first i have ever head of them actually, and its solid saison, clean and estery and with some nice grain character, drinkable and well done, but when i hear brewing and blending in the name of a place, i tend to think of a little more, wild yeast, time in oak, that sort of thing, and this really doesnt quite get to that level, its neither as rustic and old world nor as unique as i hoped it would be, but that shouldnt be a mark against a tidy and bright saison like this, just came in with perhaps unrealistic expectations, my bad. a golden hue to this, light backlit shine, soft haze, fizzy but not a ton of head, nose of pears, white wine, and white florals, not fermented too warm and phenolic or anything, but also not funky or wild or really of interest, a bit basic but appealing anyway, subtle citrus, hay and straw on the grain side, light white pepper and coriander spiciness, dry, lightly hoppy, old worldy there, nice recipe decision on the hops. the flavor is similar, herbal hops bring this to life, the yeast is not dominant, its peppery and grainy but clean, dry, and effervescent, slight candied citrus to it, lemongrass, and chardonnay notes, some bretty funk would add a lot, and im not trying to say this is too simple or anything, it has some nuance and is appealing even if the ferment isnt the part that draws me in. curious to try more from these guys, sounds and seems like a cool little operation in an area i didnt know beer stuff was happening. way cool.
