simple and a little old school, but fresh and good, and needed after a long day of drinking wine, sometimes a beer can really hit, and this one did for me, a much better beer experience this time for me than last time i was in several years ago, quality seemed elevated, service too, a great visit this time. bronze toned beer, clear, short but lasting and frothy half inch of white head that lasts the whole drink, nice carbonation. the aroma isnt quite as malty as it looks, some crystal malt richness in the background, good and fresh, but less sweet than anticipated, lightly toasted and nutty but not heavying really, just kind of classic. the hops are citrus forward with grapefruit pith bitterness and a nice botanical brightness, not quite piney but maybe a gin type note, relatively robust on the hops, but clean and not overdone, balanced in a familiar way, neutral on the ferment. flavor has middle of the road bitterness running most of the way, bitter orange peel a hint of rosemary, sweet lemon, crusty bread, copper-like minerality, the right amount of sweetness to really highlight and extend the hops, and an appreciable freshness. technically solid if a little familiar on the palate, but this is a tried and true approach to the style and it was a pint that really scratched an itch. great session in here this time in!

On tap at the pub.
A West Coast IPA, pours a nice clearish copper with light pine resin nose.
Citra and Amarillo hops give it a nice bitterness. 70 IBU's
