Hazy and juicy with classic aromas of mango, passionfruit, orange zest and pine. Big hop flavour without the bitterness. 30 IBU.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From the Huron Church Rd. LCBO in nearby Windsor. Canned October 22/25. My 3rd beer from the Petrolia, Ontario brewery, and 2nd for 2026. Remarkably highly recommended by Gracie the cat...

473 mL can from the brewery; coded 0869 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a hazy pale golden-blonde colour, with two fingers of fluffy, soapy white head situated atop. Within three minutes, it has dissipated down to a wide, sudsy collar and filmy cap, with a decent swath of messy lace left clinging to the glass. Citrusy aroma of grapefruit and lemon peel, with subtler hints of apricot, bready/wheaty malts and floral hops.

Tastes similar to the nose, with the addition of a few more tropical hop notes: I'm getting hints of mango & melon amidst the grapefruit, apricot and bready wheat malt sweetness. Low bitterness, with citrus pith and faint tropical fruitiness fading into an aftertaste that trends off-dry. Medium in body, with low carbonation that gently tickles the surface of the tongue; feels smooth and a little slick, with average drinkability.

Final Grade: 3.63, a B grade. Black Gold's Not Just NEIPA is, unfortunately, just another NEIPA - it's still a decent effort, but I don't think it's anything special compared to what you can find at any LCBO these days. The hops just don't pop: it's not very juicy, and it's kind of forgettable if I'm being honest. I could drink this beer again without a fuss, and I'd definitely revisit if I knew for certain that the can was fresh.
