473 mL can from the brewery; dated Jun 19 2022 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear brassy golden colour, supporting an inch of soapy, foamy white head that lasts for the better part of five minutes, gradually reduced to a wide, creamy collar and sudsy cap. Looks beautiful in the glass, with a full curtain of sticky, doily-patterned lace deposited in its wake. The aroma is wholesome and a little sweet, with notes of bread, honeycomb, cereal grains and just a hint of grassy hops.
The flavours are similar - whole grain bread, dough and light honey sweetness, with hints of grassy, earthy hops arising towards the finish, followed by a lightly bittersweet aftertaste. Light in body, with moderately low carbonation that softly rolls across the tongue, adding some crispness to this brew's smooth, satisfying mouthfeel. Very easy to toss back, and not at all tiresome to do so.
Final Grade: 3.79, a B+. 3 Blondes & A Brewer is a rather well-made blonde ale that I found acceptable. No, it's not worth going out of your way for specifically, as it's far from the most interesting brew in Black Gold's lineup, but I do think it's good for a light ale. The sort of thing I'd keep stocked in the back of my fridge if I lived in the area, as it'd be good for offering to visitors, or for when I'm thirsty and want something light, balanced and refreshing. Worth a shot.
