True to style and refreshingly tart, our kettle-soured Berliner Weisse balances a light and fruity acidity of lemon & green apple with a restrained grainy malt sweetness. 0 IBU

473 mL can from the brewery; coded 0974 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a relatively clear pale yellow colour, with more than an inch of soapy, foamy white head rising from the surface. It fizzles off at a brisk pace, lasting no more than three minutes; a tight collar and filmy cap survive, with minimal lace deposition. Looks good for the style. Doughy, bready malts are featured on the nose, alongside notes of lemon zest and orchard fruit; maybe a touch of grassiness.

The flavours are along the same lines: it's mild enough for hints of wheaty grains and bread to shine through the sour-ish Granny Smith apple and lemon juice notes. Not a lot of development beyond that; it finishes tart, with a drying aftertaste that leaves you thirsting for another sip. Light in body, with moderately aggressive carbonation and a pillowy-soft, smooth & frothy mouthfeel that works very well here. It's not going to blow your mind, but on a hot patio with something to scarf down? It'll do just fine.

Final Grade: 3.53, a B grade. Granny's Cure-All is very mellow in practically all regards: the sourness in particular is quite low for the style, giving the impression of a soured pale wheat ale, rather than a Berliner Weisse. That's not necessarily a bad thing - I mean, this is more approachable than your typical BW, and might work well as an introductory sour. But there's just not a lot here, beyond the grain and apple flavours - good for washing down food, not so much for depth and substance. Sure, I'd drink it again.
