not great. i was excited to drink a few beers from these guys, never heard of them before, but this is pretty rough, the ferment is whack, and its sort of overly phenolic to the point of being chemical, not really a drinkable beer, not clean and refreshing, and even if there is some corn in this, and maybe there is some appealing nuance beyond the ferment, its hard to access because of how off the lagering seems to be, really a miss for me, and im sure for anyone seeking even the macro basic standard for this style. blonde and with some decent white head from the tap, some glow, doesnt look off, but it is. dish detergent, concentrated lime juice, cheap perfume, and melting plastic in the nose and taste, most pronounced at the end, where it feels almost unsafe for consumption. there is a little mid palate sweetness, an almost yellow corn aspect that makes sense in a mexican lager, and the lager yeast does have some flavor beyond the weird parts, lightly dusty, cheerios, earthy. not sure what happened to this, to me it seems like it got way too hot, stressed the yeast, and brought this chemical weirdness to the beer, but that would be weird for a controller lagering environment, would it not? this one probably should have ended up in a drain, i always find it troubling when brewers still serve beers that have gone this wrong. anyway, not a great first impression to say the least, and while there is promise in this glass, its too far gone to give much credit for that, i liked their red ipa far better.
