Poured from 500mL bottle into a dimpled mug. Headworks just calls this “Stout” and leaves no further clues to intended style, so I added it as a Foreign/Export Stout based on the ABV and flavor profile.
Appearance: rich, dark, nearly-black color with just some brown highlights around the edges when held up to the light. Head is a finger of frothy tan foam. Color is great but a little more head retention would be nice.
Smell: sweet with a strong malt aroma and a bit of roastiness. There’s almost a cola-like aroma to this; it’s interesting.
Taste: sweet malt with a good roastiness and a few hints of chocolate. I like the slightly burnt, roasty element, but boy howdy is this guy sweet.
Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a good carbonation and a really nice creaminess.
Overall: like I said, sweetness is high, but the roasty, almost ashy, element, is a good counterbalance to that. This is definitely my favorite of Headworks’ beers so far.
