12oz can. Poured out an opaque, dark, dark brown color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left sudsy lacing. Sweet oatmeal, chocolate and caramel aromas. Sweet chocolate taste with caramel and oatmeal.

Chestnut brown color with a decent but short lived tan head.
The aroma is roasted malt with a hint of chocolate.
The taste is somewhat sweet roasted malt, some hints of chocolate and coffee.
The body is light/medium, plenty of carbonation, fairly smooth and drinkable.
Altogether, this is really thin and watery for an oatmeal stout. The taste is mild and inoffensive but does not really deliver "chocolate chip oatmeal cookie" flavor. In total, it really doesn't deliver on expectations.

Pours an effervescent chestnut with 2 fingers of fast falling tan head. No head retention or lacing

S: Roastyness, some darkfruit

T: Follows the nose with a little cinnamon, & hints of cocoa & coffee up front, plus dryness. Dryness, roastyness, a little cinnamon as this warms. Finishes dry with roastyness & cinnamon

MF: Light medium body with low carbonation, becomes a little watery.

Better with some age. Like most gluten free/low options not for me

"Oatmeal stout." 5.0% ABV. 12 fl oz pull-tab can. Sold in 4 packs for ~$11.49 USD plus tax in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Brewed with "dark roasted rice" and "chocolate millet malts" along with "toasted oats."

INGREDIENTS: Millet, rice, buckwheat quinoa, gluten-free oats, fapioca maltodextrin, hops, yeast, and water." "naturally gluten-free, vegan, and contains no major allergens."

Not much of a robust oatmeal stout, tending a bit thin and weak mouthfeel-wise, and quite shallow depth of flavour wise.

I have nothing against these gluten-free/diet conscious attempts at imitating beer styles (in fact I'm rooting for them...who wouldn't want a healthier or more accessible beer if it tastes the exact same), but this is another beer in a long line of swings and misses in that niche. Not up there with the Stockyard Oatmeal Stouts of the world, let alone the better regional and local expressions of the style, nor is it up there with Dogfish Head's efforts in the gluten-free/alternative grain category.

Fails to evoke the chocolate oatmeal cookie flavour profile the label indicates they're targeting, so I can't say the brewers are even succeeding with this brew on their own terms. A drinkable effort for the biopsy-diagnosed Celiac drinkers out there, I suppose, but I don't know that that demographic will prove particularly profitable for NEFF.

In any case, this is isn't a beer I'd recommend to oatmeal stout fans, and it's certainly not a beer I'd buy again - especially at $11.49/4x12oz.
