lighter than a typical marzen to me, in color, flavor, and body, but really well made and a nice early autumn beer while the weather is still warm enough for most of us to not be wanting and needing too much malt richness in our lagers. for a small brewery that doesnt seem to be on anyones radar, i was immediately impressed with this. a nice real pale orange color to this with almost a full inch of white head, airy and holding on awhile. the nose and taste here show lighter german malts, notes of biscuit, multigrain crackers, and lightly toasted depth, simple but in a good way, it lets the flattering mineral profile of the water come through and the delicate but traditional yeast profile not be overwhelmed, the lightness of the whole thing is cool, i could seriously drink a dozen of these no problem. very little sweetness, which is kind of the opposite of what most of these bring, but i love how dry and snappy it is, great balance and proportions, and it makes me like this brewery right out of the gate. cool space and good service too, a small town gem, really good take on the style here, minimal in a way that allows the drinker to appreciate the quality. nice!
