Well rounded with a clean finish and a balanced flavour with malt and fruit notes: German-inspired precision has resulted in this crisp and bright Kolsch. Inspired by the beers of Koln Germany.

355 mL can from the brewery; coded 12123 and served slightly chilled.
Pours pale golden-yellow, stirring up roughly one finger of soapy, frothy white head that dissipates within a minute or two. Scant lace deposition, with a thin collar and a few filmy wisps surviving on the surface. It smells of gritty, grainy pale malts and fresh sourdough, with hints of earthy, dirty hops, sweet apples and grape skin.
The flavour profile is similar - I'm getting sourdough bread sweetness and grainy pilsner malts, with hints of bruised apple, white grape and earthy, herbal hops rounding out the back end. Light in body, with moderately low carbonation that softly brushes across the palate, adding some semblance of crispness to this brew's smooth mouthfeel. Great drinkability - this short can is almost a tease.
Final Grade: 3.71, a B grade. Big Family's Rhineland Cowboy is definitely not the worst Canadian kölsch I've come across - if anything, it might be a teensy bit above average. I appreciate the hints of orchard fruit and grape skin, but the sourdough is a little overstated. All things considered, it's the best kölsch in Sarnia at the moment, and I plan to return for more.
