Roeliff - "Brewed with French-style Farmhouse Yeast."
Named, like the brewery, after the Roeliff Jansen Kill Creek, called by local trout anglers by both names ; The Roeliif or Roe Jan.
This saison pours a slightly cloudy pale yellow with a low head of white foam. A head will kick up when swirled but has little retention.
Aromas of lemon curd pie, sweet and fruity herbaly spiced and not overly citrus in the nose. A hint of barnyard and wet hay mixes with the sugared sage notes.
The flavor is deep, solid malt sweetness with more notes of lemon zest and just enough stable funk to keep it interesting.
Hop spicing leads to a peppery finish, long and smoldering with that edge-of-sour funkiness lingering on the palate.
A well made beer with great traditional saison / biere de garde character.
