With all the well deserved acclaim that America gets for their west-coast this and our hazy that, for our adventures in barrel aging and an adventurous sense of pushing the limits of what beer can be; we can't forget that our first original beer was the American Premium Lager, a beer that was adapted from European Pilsner out of necessity, palate preferences and ingredient availability.

Scout & Scholar's Ol' Buddy is a testament to that beer that's both traditional and currently popular as it pours bright gold, nearly crystal clear and boasting steady strems of bubbles. As its frothy head forms on the brim, its short-lived nature revels a comfortable fresh grain scent laced with baking bread, a hint of powdered sugar and a balancing aroma of hop spice. Supple in its sweetness is partly of malt but partly of grain, each fresh and bready with a slight toasted sweetness.

As the flavors develop quickly, the sweetness starts to retreat and leave behind the more earthy, grainy and husk spices of the beer to show a spicy balance. Not to be outdone, the grassy nature of hops lead to a late taste of lemongrass, lemon pepper and a floral resin quality that lingers medium long on the finish.

Medium bodied yet plump for Pilsner, Ol' Buddy's simple grain sweetness is a common taste yet considered a slight plague to more malty or a more malty alternatives. A mild mannered grain-derived astringency seems bitter from hops but has an unsettled spicy texture as well as taste that trends eucalyptus, especially with the mild evaporative cooling of alcohol.
