Tasting Notes (from can)
Chocolate, caramel and leather lead the way in this complex, highly drinkable porter. Texture is smooth and soft with an easy finish.

Lump Porter pours a very dark, almost black, brow with a medium-sized, long-lasting, lacing head. The aroma has notes of dark chocolate powder. The flavor has notes of bitter, semi-sweet dark chocolate and a hint of smoked meat. It has a good feel. Overall, it is a very smooth and flavorful porter.

Bought two from Beer Drop. I intend to drink both.
Poured into my BA Respect Beer glass, Lump Looks inviting and while the full foam dissipates, lace gets left around.
Smells are as advertised with the sweet stuff leading and the leather containing the sweet. The same follows in the Taste with a mild hopping replacing the leather in the finish. Smooth, soft and medium-mouthed. American Porters tend either to pile in more hops than needed or toast the malts to bitterness. Not so with Lump.
In addition to Tasting Notes on the can (which I added verbatim in the BA description), Return Brewing explains the process used called "capping." This adds dark malts after the mash and reduces harshness of charred malts. I learned something new from a two year old ! (micro, of course)
So Return is quite young. This can was brewed at Crossroads Brewing under contract for their "Tavern" line of more traditional beers. So, Return has limited capacity to keep costs down (a smart way to start.) Their tavern/taproom is in downtown Hudson. Return also has a "Garden" line using local ingredients, most specific to the Hudson Valley. They have a third line of barrel-aged brews. Pretty impressive for less than three years old !

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
