Aromas of milk chocolate and cola are supported by complementary notes of cacao, roast and a light spice.

16oz can pours a deep brown-black with quite a bit of dark tan-colored head that sticks around as a very thick cap and leaves thick lacing. Subtle aroma of roasted malts. Flavor is heavy on the burnt and roasted malts and has that flavor that is affectionately known as "motor oil". Bittersweet with a nice array of dark fruit flavors, a bit of smoke, a bit of chocolate, and a bit of spice. The oats lend a nice smooth mouthfeel, and there's a surprisingly small carbonation feel despite the large amount of head. No overbearing bitterness, just the right amount. The aftertaste is slightly bitter and slightly sweet, and definitely pulls you back in for another sip.

Damn good beer, would certainly buy again

Part of a flight at Pilot Project. I'm the first review of the second release (only 45 on Untappd.) So I would have liked to have the first and see how it has changed. Based on the reviews below, not much off-season tweaking.

For Looks, they could have more lace and lasting foam. Smells roasty and cocoa. Tastes are balanced, not sweet and finish almost semi-dry. Soft and creamy in the mouth. Largely true to style. I'd like to have it again before Spring.

Draft at Pilot Project. Black with a mahogany glint in the light. Thin skim of foam, ring around the edges with no lacing. Aroma is pleasant, mild bittersweet chocolate, roast malt, mild fried plantain esters. This carries through in the taste, mild caramelized sugars of fried plantain, grainy oats, mild roast. Creamy at first but finishes a little thin. Roasty aftertaste, somewhat dry with a light astringency and low bitterness. Overall it's pretty nice.

Had on tap. Black pour with two fingers of beige foam and thick lacing. Oatmeal with bittersweet chocolate meet vanilla cream and roasted malt in both smell and taste. Thought roast led more in nose, where sweet notes were allowed to develop more in taste. Feel is creamy, full bodied but not too heavy, chewy and well roasted. Great beer for when it starts to warm a bit out of winter

16 oz can into a pint glass.

Pours a very dark brown color with a dense one-finger tan head that eventually receded to a thin cap. Smells of sweet nutty dark roasted malt, chocolate and cocoa powder. Taste follows - rich and dark toasted grains, dark chocolate giving it a mild bitterness that lingers in the aftertaste. Medium-full boded with a buttery richness to it.
