The 2024 rendition of Black is Beautiful is a rich, malty Baltic porter featuring a healthy addition of blackberries. The classic, clean lager fermented base of this beer gets us into the swing of things like a Louis Armstong solo but this beer refuses to color inside the lines. A Miles Davis-esque improvisation of blackberries seamlessly meld roast character and dark berry into harmony making this brew a pleasant groove.

I like Funkytown ... despite how labored their promotion copy was (which I added unedited.) I've drank all their brews on BA and have counted 49+repeats on UnTappd. I even thought this BIB was an interesting experiment. But it pushed the Baltic Porter envelope a little too far for an old fuddy-duddy like me. The chances of summer berry helping a winter beer seem slim and, in this case, they were.
As the last part of a flight of four at Pilot Project's gastropub, BIB w/blueberries was my dessert after having a sandwich. As a positive, I recommend this BIB rendition as dessert.
