750 mL swing-top sealed with a standard crown cap; served at cellar temperature. I bought this from their retail store in Guelph last March, and the neck tag - which I (shockingly) did not misplace - gives a bottling date of Dec 11 2014.

Pours a clear ruby-amber colour, chock-full of streams of bubbly effervescence. Nearly one finger of soapy, bone white-coloured head is produced at the surface, but it fizzles off over the next 2-3 minutes, depositing a modest quantity of lace. Its remnants include a foamy collar and a thin, patchy film - rather unassuming visually, akin to an amber ale, though the bottom half of the bottle eventually proves to be cloudier. Nothing too noteworthy on the nose - caramelized sugar and a bready, doughy wheat malt sweetness, with subtle notes of grape, cherry, red apple and oak. A good whiff of ethanol also comes through, along with some banana and kind of a stinky-feet funkiness.

Very mellow flavour profile. A backbone of bready, biscuity wheat malt and some restrained caramelized sugar overlaps with fruity flavours of grape, cherry and red apple. Hints of candied citrus on the back end, but oak and vinous grape tannins quickly overpower them. Briefly-lingering aftertaste of tannic astringency, weak grape tartness and boozy sweetness. The high alcohol content is noticeable, but so very well-integrated, only becoming a problem in the more concentrated, mustier/sour dregs of the bottle. Nearing full-bodied, with a silky-smooth soft mouthfeel due to the gentle carbonation levels. Not bad, but this beer didn't taste as interesting as the label made it sound.

Final Grade: 3.74, a B. Sleet Wheat Wine is a serviceable extra-strong ale, but not a memorable one. Given that this style is completely new to me, I find this to be a hard beer to grade - after all, I can't rightfully say whether or not it's a "good" wheatwine. Subjectively speaking though, I find this beer to be a bit of a mixed bag - the mouthfeel is superb, but I have never been big on barleywine and this is basically an extra-sweet, winey one. If they bring this one-off back, I would probably buy another bottle to share.
