This summertime IPA has massive fresh fruit aromas, a light malt body, and a crisp bitter finish. Brewed using saison yeast this IPA has slight spice and pepper notes followed by a citrus hop finish. Yeeehaw!

750 mL bottle from the brewery; bottled June 17 2015 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear, effervescent golden-amber colour, generating one inch of spongy, sparkling-white froth at the surface. It maintains cohesion for five minutes or so, steadily wilting away until only a dense, creamy collar and thin film remain. Beautiful lacing. The nose boasts a sturdy malt presence - bready and quite grainy, with the additions of both wheat and rye contributing noticeably. Peppery, yeasty notes are even more prominent, with notes of apricot, grapefruit, lemon pith and some floral undertones providing this one with quite the enticing bouquet.
It took a few sips to for my tastebuds to get the hang of this one - it's an interesting cross between a saison and an IPA, but there's a lot going on, and it's hard to discern some of the individual flavours. A firm, malty backbone of light, grainy barley, bready wheat and a hint of pumpernickel remains present throughout the sip. Fruity flavours of apricot, red apple and mango muddle together in the early going, with citrusy notes of grapefruit, orange and lemon ramping up toward the latter half. Finishes a bit on the pithy side, with some light peppery notes and juicy tropical fruit, the latter of which almost overshadows the hop astringency. Medium-full in body, with moderate carbonation levels that would be inadequate for a saison, but provide just the right level of restrained crispness for an IPA. Smooth, generous mouthfeel, and at no point does the 7.5% alcohol content factor into the flavour.
Final Grade: 4.18, a well-earned A-. Ee I Ee I Oh! Farmhouse IPA is a wonderful strong ale. Not quite a saison, and not quite an IPA - but undeniably delicious nonetheless, and dangerously drinkable to boot. This IPA's bitterness seems surprisingly muted for 68 IBUs - and while that is typically a serious no-no, this odd hybrid is just so durned tasty that I am not inclined to consider it much of an issue at all. In fact, I'd say that this is one of the best Wellington products I've yet tried. Grab a bottle while it's available - this is one one-off that definitely deserves an encore, if not a permanent slot in the rotation. Happy Canada Day, BA!
