Floating on the breeze, this hazy pale ale is a pleasant respite from the everyday. This sessionable pale ale has a balanced spicy bitterness and big juicy tropical hop notes. Imagine this pleasant island, wouldn’t it be nice?

473 mL can from the LCBO, one of four beers included in their Vol 8 Mix Pack; packaged Mar 10 2020 and served barely chilled. 'Brewed with New Zealand hops' according to the marketing blurb, with both oats and spelt listed as ingredients.
Pours a cloudy golden-yellow colour, topped with nearly an inch of soapy, foamy white head that settles off within the next five minutes or so. An even coat of lacing has been left in its wake, alongside a tight collar of froth surrounding a filmy islet; looks good so far. It smells somewhat grassy and floral; there's also a fair bit of white grapefruit, lime and stone fruit, mixed together with hints of tropical fruit and grainy pale malts.
A tasty, light session ale - the backdrop consists of grainy, crackery pale malt sweetness, overlain by fruity, hoppy flavours of grapefruit, lime, passion fruit, apricot and pineapple. It becomes less fruity and more pithy, grassy and floral towards the finish, with a short-lived burst of bitterness rounding out the finish; notes of grain, citrus zest and pith carry on into the aftertaste. Light in body, with zippy carbonation that aggressively prickles the tongue, giving this brew a crisp, lively mouthfeel that scrubs the palate with each sip. An easy drinker.
Final Grade: 3.82, a B+. Pleasant Island is a little more reserved and/or restrained than your typical 'hazy pale ale': it's certainly not the most memorable or assertive pale ale I've ever had, but in all fairness it *is* sub-5% and generally quite refreshing and inoffensive. Probably one of the better pale ales that Wellington has put out over the years... I'd enjoy drinking this again, but it's not something I'd purposefully seek out.

473 ml can served cool into a pint glass. Part of the latest Wellington mixed pack.
Appearance - Hazy pale golden color with 3 fingers of head that reduce down very quickly. Some lacing left behind.
Smell - Pleasantly juicy with notes of pineapple especially and other citrus.
Taste - Clean and fruity, lots of pineapple some other citrus and juicier than most pale ales, also leaning on the sweet side.
Mouthfeel - Medium-light feel, a bit sticky, carbonation is quite mild.
Overall - A pretty tasty pale ale that highlights pineapple flavors.
